Mock tests

IELTS mock tests, marked in minutes

Take a full mock in the exam's order for an overall band, or practise one section at a time. Academic and General Training.

Full mock

All four sections, back to back

Listening, then Reading, then Writing, then Speaking - the order you'll meet on test day. Each section unlocks when you finish the one before it, and you finish with a band for every skill and an overall band.

  • The exam's order and timings
  • An overall band, worked out the way IELTS does
  • Stop between sections and come back later
Sectional

One skill at a time

Short, focused tests for the section holding your band down: a Reading passage, a Listening part, a Writing task or a Speaking test, in any order.

  • Fit practice into half an hour
  • Band and feedback for every test
  • Track each section on your record

What you practise, and how it's marked

Listening

Time: About 30 min · Questions: 40 · Parts: 4

  • In a full mock the recording plays once, as in the exam; in practice you can pause, rewind and slow it down
  • Marked the moment you submit, with every answer
  • Read the script afterwards to find what you missed

Reading

Time: 60 min · Questions: 40 · Passages: 3

  • Passage and questions side by side, or as tabs on a phone
  • A timer, as in the exam
  • Marked instantly, with the correct answer to every question and explanations
The Reading format →

Writing

Time: 60 min · Tasks: 2 · Task 1: 150+ words

  • Write in the browser with a live word count and a timer
  • AI marks each criterion within minutes, quoting your own sentences
  • Corrections for real mistakes in your answer, and a model answer to compare
  • A teacher can review the mark and replace it
The Writing format →

Speaking

Time: 11-14 min · Parts: 3 · Part 2 preparation: 1 min

  • Record every answer in your browser, Part 2 with its preparation minute
  • AI marks all four criteria from a transcript of your answers, with comments and next steps
  • See the transcript and your speaking speed for each answer
  • Pronunciation is an estimate - the marker reads a transcript, not your voice - and a teacher can review it

Mock test FAQ

How long is a full mock test?

About as long as the exam: Listening, Reading and Writing take around two and a half hours together, and Speaking adds about a quarter of an hour. You can stop between sections and carry on later.

How is the overall band worked out?

It is the average of your four section bands, rounded to the nearest half band - an average of 6.25 becomes 6.5, and 6.75 becomes 7.

Can I take a mock test twice?

Each test is taken once, so your band is a first attempt every time. Take another mock to measure progress.

Do I need a microphone?

For Speaking, yes - any phone or laptop microphone works. You record each answer in the browser.

When do I get my Writing and Speaking bands?

Usually within a few minutes of submitting. Reading and Listening are marked straight away.
