Privacy

This page explains what IELTS Practice collects when you use this website and the practice platform, why, who processes it for us, and the choices you have.

What we collect

  • Your account: your name, email address and password (stored only as a one-way hash), and a profile photo if you add one.
  • Your practice: your answers, the essays and letters you write, your Speaking recordings and their transcripts, and your marks and feedback.
  • Messages you send us: what you enter in the contact or demo form - name, email, optional phone and organisation, and your message.
  • Technical records: a log of account activity (such as signing in) and server logs, which include IP addresses, used for security and to fix problems.

How we use it

  • To run your account and show you your tests, marks and record.
  • To mark your Writing and Speaking (see below).
  • To let your teacher see your results, if you study in a batch with an institute.
  • To send you emails you need: confirming your address, password resets and replies to your messages.
  • To keep the service secure, for example by limiting repeated sign-in attempts.

We don't sell your information, and we don't use it for advertising.

AI marking of Writing and Speaking

When you submit a Writing or Speaking test, your answer is sent to Anthropic, whose Claude model marks it against the IELTS criteria and writes your feedback. For Speaking, your recordings are first transcribed byAmazon Transcribe (part of Amazon Web Services), and the transcript - not the audio - is sent to Anthropic. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, what we send is not used to train its models.

A teacher may review and change a mark. The marks are estimates for practice, not official IELTS results.

Who processes it for us

  • Amazon Web Services - hosting, file storage (including recordings) and speech transcription.
  • Neon - our database.
  • Anthropic - AI marking.
  • Mailtrap - sending email, and telling us whether a message was delivered or opened.

Each processes data only to provide its service to us.

Cookies and storage

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics or advertising trackers. When you sign in to the platform, it sets one session cookie to keep you signed in, and remembers a few preferences (such as Academic or General Training) in your browser.

How long we keep it

We keep your account and practice record while your account is open. Messages from the contact and demo forms are kept as long as we need them to answer and follow up. Ask us to delete your account and we'll remove it and your practice record, except where we must keep something by law.

Your choices

You can ask to see the information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Send your request through thecontact page from the email address on your account.

Changes

If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page and, for significant changes, tell you by email.
